Janes's Maternity Session

Last Sunday I met Jans’s and Reginald. It was Jans’s maternity session. Their first child! I jokingly asked if they will do another maternity session for their second child. They didn’t give me a definite answer. Why not?

It is nice to document one’s pregnancy. It is after all an important milestone of a woman’s life. Pregnancies should be celebrated! What better way to do that? Of course, a bump love session to document your pregnancy glow and round belly. The discomforts we have during this period is countless. It keeps on changing month after month. I remember feeling so ugly! But when I had a maternity session with a friend photographer, I didn’t feel yucky! But instead I embraced being pregnant – big belly, round nose and everything else round and big.

What I love about maternity sessions are the soft pauses in between. When the mother touches her belly because of baby movements –  summersaults, flips and jabs. They’d hold their belly, look down at it, just like how a mama looks at her child. A smile would slowly break and the twinkle in their eyes of pure joy is so evident, it is hard for me to reach for the camera and click away. Afraid that I’d break the spell!
