I

It was an intimate wedding for Owen and Marianne. This time though the court clerk did something extra. She placed teddy bears and a bouquet of flowers on the judge’s table. So, I guess, it is safe to say that each courthouse has different ways of officiating a simple wedding ceremony. We expected it to be quick but like the other civil weddings we covered, the judge had a short spiel about the marriage laws and a few important reminders.

I had a funny experience before the wedding rites started. There were two batches that day. Instead of just taking pictures of Owen and Marianne’s group, I also took pictures of the other couple. I got confused as to who was included and who wasn’t. I only realized that I took pictures of the wrong group when half of the guests were already inside.

Days before the wedding Marianne sent me an email about how their relationship started. They started out as friends for so long. I think relationships, when built by friendship, is stronger! They say when life happens, romantic love slowly fades. It is then replaced by a different and a more deeper kind of love that is also strengthened by friendship. Marianne said that they are a very simple couple and are very awkward in front of the camera. I told her not to worry — you won’t even know that I’m taking pictures.

Small weddings like this one make my heart soar. Because this is the kind of wedding that I feel the happiest covering.  I have covered big ones, but the small ones give me more depth.

Thank you Owen and Marianne! More power to you both.
